Day 18: caught in a landslide, no escape from reality

Day 18: caught in a landslide, no escape from reality

Miles: 40Countries: RomaniaStops: home -> Old Town -> home -> dinner -> homePlaylists: N/AWe were told the passports will be ready by morning. We wait. And wait. And wait. Nothing. We decide as a tribute to our last day in Bucharest, we'll go check out the city and actually do touristy stuff. We drove downtown and parked the car, but didn't get very far. Something, again, just didn't seem right. Not sure if it was the heat, dehydration, or Justin feeling off in general. I was just cranky but he seemed...off. I start craving cheesecake but apparently nobody carried cheesecake...

Day 17: You can check out any time you like, But you can never leave!'

Miles: 3Countries: RomaniaStops: home -> coffee -> home -> park -> coffee -> homePlaylist: N/ANot much to update this time as we continued to play the waiting game. But I'm definitely losing track of what day it is of the week, and what day into the rally, so these posts are really for me more than having any additional info. Also, it's for ranting. Spent the morning calling various embassies trying to salvage visas but it is unbelievably ridiculous at the lack of tracking they have. We don't understand how we spent however long and $$ filling out application forms...

Day 16: I get knocked down, but I get up again

Miles: 21Countries: RomaniaStops: Bucharest (hostel -> passport photos -> Canadian embassy -> Hostel -> embassy -> hostel -> Embassy -> hostel -> friend's)Playlists: the sound of my tears This morning:Whatever shred of hope we held on to over the weekend was now gone. Last night, we were hopeful that we might still be able to make our trip and ended up just having a beer on a patio after a nap that lasted majority of the afternoon. We called it pretty early and were in bed around 10. Oddly enough, the promised hostel room to ourselves quickly turned into 8...

Day 15: Starting right now I'll be strong. I'll play my fight song And I don't really care If nobody else believes 'Cause I've still got A lot of fight left in me

Day 15: Starting right now I'll be strong. I'll play my fight song And I don't really care If nobody else believes 'Cause I've still got A lot of fight left in me

Miles: 0 (although probably a good 5 from walking back and forth so many times)Countries: RomaniaStops: Bucharest: Airbnb, food, Airbnb, food, hostelPlaylist: N/ALast night we sat in the car in the heart of Bucharest for 2 or so hours not knowing where to go. We spent almost an hour of it with insurance. Of course, the credit card we bought into, specifically what is considered the best travel credit card, covers all but theft. And even if they make an exception, it's a max of $1000 per person. The lady was super sweet and sympathetic and did everything she could...

Day 14: When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence

Day 14: When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence

Miles: 150Countries: RomaniaStops: Transfargarasan -> Curtea de Arges -> BucharestPlaylists: silence. So... many of you have heard by now.... we got robbed. Passports, visas, car ownership, camera, pretty much most of our digital accessories, anything and everything. We had an incredible night last night on the mountain. Justin spent the evening taking photos of a sky you'd never even dream of where we're from. He got a bunch of long exposure shots of cars driving by on the highway and winding up and down on the crazy road. He was playing with flashlights and lighting up the car, spent hours....
